Guatemala de Flor

A scent of lavender, a memory of Antigua

When we encountered Guatemala de Flor for the first time in our Seattle cupping room, a heady lavender scent filled the air. This aroma triggered a memory for one of our coffee buyers – the smell and vision of lavender growing in the cracks of coffee-drying patios in Antigua thousands of miles away.

A sip of this coffee’s intriguing floral and herbal notes completed our mental transport. This exquisite harvest is from a prize-winning estate, San Sebastian, in Guatemala’s Antigua valley – one of the world’s finest coffee-growing lands. As we closed our eyes, we could picture the three volcanoes that surround the valley, providing the nutrient-rich soil and ideal microclimate that Antigua is famous for.

San Sebastian has a long history of terrific coffee; it was honoured with the Cup of Excellence award in 2002 and 2007. Guatemala de Flor is one more achievement of note. Make sure you create your own memories with it soon.
